Survivor Benefit Plan
Paid Up and Still Paying?
If a military retiree has been paying into the Survivor Benefit Plan for at least 30 years and is at least 70 years old, they are considered to be in "Paid Up" SBP status. Their coverage still continues but without any more payments due. However, some folks are finding that SBP premiums are still being withheld from their retired pay.
Retirees who believe they are over-paying must apply to correct this problem before June 30, 2009 using a DD Form 2656-11. This form and more information are available at: Paid-Up SBP.
